Armor Hunters: Aftermath #1 Review

Armor Hunters: Aftermath # 1
Written by Robert Venditti
Art by CAFU & Brian Reber
Letters by Dave Sharpe
Valiant Comics

What Happened: We get a bit of what happened with Unity and the Armor Hunters after the miniseries. M.E.R.O. becomes G.A.T.E. and Unity shows the world what it’s got.

Big Moment:

I honesty have to say Aric’s speech at the end of the issue was quite amazing.

Venditti does his best as we get a lot within so few pages. There is character development for Livewire, Col. Capshaw, Ninjak, Gin-gr, Eternal Warrior and X-O Manowar.  Venditti makes sure the status quo is shaken up as M.E.R. O. becomes G.A.T. E. He ties up a lot of loose ends, including what happened to the other surviving Armor Hunters. There is a commercial done, to help with Unity’s image. I applaud Venditti for making the fact that Unity saved the planet now forcing them into the limelight. The dialogue and character interactions are great and we get solid pacing. The speech from Aric at the end was just the cherry on top of this wonderful comic book sundae.

CAFU does an outstanding job with great pencils and inks. There is a lot done. We get a lot of backgrounds, characters of all shapes, colors and sizes. There is a great amount of expression as well as a good amount of scope. The final panel of the issue is one of the best I have seen and gave me goosebumps. Reber’s colors just make it all the more worth it. Really great panel work and perspectives this issue. Really, just a great job by the art team.

Final Verdict:

The art was amazing. The writing was stellar. This issue tied things up and showed up the beginning of status quo changes. I loved it.  I give Armor Hunters: Aftermath # 1 a 5 out of 5. Pick it up Wednesday, October 1st.
