A short spoiler free summary is as follows. Lola is continuing to try and keep the young Isaac safe in the wasteland where some mysterious group known as the “suits” chase him and Lola. But on top of that there’s a whole different group that Lola and her friends have to worry about.
Though the setting is in a world that’s basically a wasteland and society as we know it has crumbled, the characters have dialog that is definitely believable and human. The tone of the story itself is the real achievement. It definitely feels like a scary new world where hope is scarce but still very much alive.
Siya Oum definitely know what she’s doing. The line art is great, the lines have varying weight to them which looks nice. The coloring style is quite pretty and the lighting in particular looks great. The full page art spreads in particular are evocative and gorgeous.
This comic felt like a brisk read. It’s the normal length but it pulled me in and I read through it reaching the end thinking “What do you mean that’s it? I have to know what happens next” which is a pretty darn good thing. On top of the story, the art is beautiful and it sets its tone masterfully. LOLA XOXO vol. 2 # 3 gets a 9 out of 10.
