Review by Jeremias de Leon
It’s the start of a new story arc. Sam and Cynthia are on the trail of some new evil group in the city. This issue felt like a straight up cartoon. Which is appropriate the prior artist was the guy who worked on Bob’s Burgers art. It seemed to be all leading up to the finale which puts Sam in a familiar situation.
The writing is actually pretty sharp and funny. Though some of the beats of the comic are very similar to previous issues.
Arruda Massa was a good choice after Devin Roth to be the artist. His style is also dynamic and cartoony and works perfectly for the crazy over the top action you see here.
Amerikarate seems to be going by a bit of a formula now. Though not a chore at all to read it doesn’t feel as fresh as it’s first arc. It could use something different happening, especially at the end. No spoilers here but if you have been reading the issue since it began you’ll know when you read this issue. The art and the punchlines are great though, especially for fans of Adult Swim type comedy. Amerikarate # 5 is still solid but didn’t feel as mind blowing as previous issues. Amerikarate # 5 gets a 7.5 out of 10.
