Review by Jeremias de Leon
Aric of Dacia continues his forced fight on the alien planet. He also contemplates his life and his relation with his armor.
The writing goes fairly deep here. It’s in a sci-fi, war setting with tons of action but the dialog Aric has with other characters has this real well thought out, human feel to it. Which is funny considering other than Aric everyone else is not human. There’s some good use of symbolism in this story, and seeing Aric as this gritty but calmer version of himself is refreshing. Seeing his growth from the battle hungry king he was when he first showed up in the relaunched Valiant universe.
This whole issue is gorgeous. It starts off with a splash page and just when you think there’ll be a drop in detail or quality as the issue goes on, especially during the action scenes, it retains it’s poster like quality. Seriously, and page in this issue could be something that can be proudly hung on a wall as a poster.
This issue is fantastic. There’s a better explanation for the setting and new characters than in the first issue. The dialog is intriguing and never boring and the action is supremely well done. The art throughout the issue is a treat for the eyes honestly. X-O Manowar (2017) gets a 9.5 out of 10.
