Amerikarate is the story of a man who loves Karate and comes home after being off in a war to find that karate is no longer tolerated by the general public. He’s a man with passion however and he stands up to those who don’t wish him to do what he loves. All the while spoofing testosterone filled classic action flicks.
The artist happens to be the character designer for the cartoon series Bob’s Burgers. Who happens to know how to design over the top recognizable characters. Coming from cartoons he also knows how to make each panel flow in a way that looks like the pages are almost animated. The whole comic is just super fun to read.
This comic had only two choices, crash and burn and feel the sting of seeing too many similar spoofs or rocket away and be enjoyed by many who see it as a hilarious send up of old school action movies. I expected the former but found myself as someone who sees the latter. This comic is full of whiz bang action and hilarity. If you don’t find yourself laughing at any of it you may have to check if you have a pulse. Amerikarate # 1 gets a 9.5 out of 10
