DC Comics decided to kick off some important announcements early on Wednesday as DC gave news on one of the newest titles for their Rebirth line, Batwoman. Kate Kane will once again have an ongoing series coming this winter with creative team of Marguerite Bennett, James Tynion IV & Steve Epting. The solo series will deal with the various aspects of Kane and her history that both the writers & artist will draw from.
From DC Comics press release of the news, this is what Mark Doyle had to say:
“Batwoman is yet another example of the character depth, richness and diversity present in Gotham City,” said Batman Group Editor Mark Doyle. “Fans have really responded to her role in DETECTIVE COMICS, and we all love Kate here in the Bat-office, so that made it an easy choice to return her to a solo series.”
To set up the new ongoing, there’s a 2 part “Batwoman Begins” story that Bennett will join Tynion to co-write on Detective Comics. Yet, after the first arc on Batwoman, Tynion will hand the writing reigns completely to Bennett.
Artistically, this is Epting’s first DC work in 15 years. Yet, the artist did comment on joining the book.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to work on Batwoman,” said Epting. “I love the character design and how she fits into the whole Batman mythos, and I’m looking forward to the artistic opportunities the story will provide. Batwoman has a rich visual history and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!”
Batwoman #1 will hit shelves this February.
